Never seen one before. Quite a nice looking thing and a rare visitor to York

Wow, that was unexpected and not at all shy. Reminds me of when I see Waxwings behaving like Starlings. You can almost walk up to them. Never seen a Hoopoe though.

Our place in Spain is crawling with them. They are the only creatures on earth that appear to eat processionary caterpillars, which are causing all sorts of havoc in the south of Spain. They’re hairy buggers, and shed hairs that start all sorts of allergic reactions that put a mate of mine in hospital. These birds eat them for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Wow, that's amazing. Only ever seen them twice, once in Crete and the other in Italy.

There's one been spotted this week near Aberdeen beachfront - amazingly far north given their usual range.
