Showed the video,photos of this to my misses and she thought i was showing her some wildlife clips off t'internet,especially when i told her what size it was,but i said no,it was at our front door!!
It was about 4 inches long,largest one i've seen in my life,especially when you're used to seeing the little green ones that nibble your plants!!Here it is.

As the link above, it will turn into an elephant hawk-moth. Found one in the garden last year, bloody huge things.

They are awesome. We get one or two on the bogbean every year and I now try and rescue and least one and bring it inside to pupate and then overwinter as a cocoon - mainly cos loads of stuff eats them if it gets a chance. The moths they turn into are lovely.

Saw this when out for a walk. Privet hawkmoth caterpillar. Huge!
