Picked up a rescue cat 6 days a go, she is settled in the house - eating, sleeping, toileting etc.

Very friendly towards all people.

If the dog is asleep the cat will come over and sniff her, if the dog walks into the room where the cat is she will come flying at her.
Dog now a scared mess!

One of the reasons we chose this cat was that the shelter said she was great with dogs.
They are now saying they will get used to each other and to let them get on with it, and the cat will be better in a few weeks when she can go out.

Anything we can do to help, feel bad for the dog!

The cat will almost certainly chill out, and the dog will learn to act in a way that doesn’t wind the cat up.

Went through this with my mothers Bengals and our German Shepherd. First encounter was interesting - dog was caught off guard and came off worst. Second time the dog was full werewolf from the outset and the cat bailed at the last minute.

After about a month they had come to an agreement - if the dog walked slowly into the room and walked sort of sideways across the room (non-threatening), the cat would not start an argument. The cat would simply examine it claws in a mildly threatening manner.

Give it time and it should work out.

Our two dogs were used to cats but new cat was a recently tamed feral. She spent the first few days behind the stove, but now, 8 months later, sits on our laps purring away whilst having her tummy rubbed.

With one of her pals
