I was telling someone about an encounter with horse flies and happened to mention ( I thought it was going to be antihistamine time for me and the dog ) only to be told the dog can only take certain ones; I thought dogs could have any? Does anyone on here know the correct answer? Cheers

My youngest Terrier takes Piriton or the Sainsburys equivalent for hay-fever, I've read that you can't give dogs Piriteze.

AFAIK dogs can take any of the antihistamines we can, however, we don't always have up to date info on dose rates for animals given that the only info on licensed use is for humans. Piriton is well established as an antihistamine useable in dogs. You must also remember that histamine mediated reactions are much less important than in humans so antihistamines have less effect in animals.
