Anyone heard of stink bugs? Found what I think is one in our garden in Scotland - reading up it sounds like it's an invasive species and in the last few years organisations have been setting up traps to try to detect their presence so feels like it's still quite rare.

It's currently in a plastic box in the kitchen, should I contact any particular organisation to say I've found one, or just flush and forget?

Apparently it can 'destroy a punnet of strawberries with its secretion alone', which must put it on a par with some of the members of NP&E.

Your first picture isn't very clear. Could it be a mottled shield bug as per your link? if so I'd let it go.

On looking up a few articles I think it was a red-legged shield bug, so it went into the back garden. There's a packet of raspberries in the fridge that are going off but I doubt that would be enough to entice a stink bug into our neighbourhood. smile

Hopefully it gives me enough eco-credit for that badger I shot.
