A what dog thread
Discussion
Hi
It’s my first post in this forum and I would appreciate a bit of help.
Basically we have decided that we would like to add a dog to the household.
We are looking for a small to medium sized dog that is potentially Hypoallergenic or at least low shedding.
The key things are:
We have a 12 year old cat, so it has to be a breed that will mix
We have two kids 6 & 9 year olds
We will be able to do 2 half hour walks a day as a minimum and plenty of play in the back garden.
We have looked at lots breeds, but are struggling to find something that ticks all the boxes and isn’t a mega expensive designer breed.
Thanks in advance
Rob

The two breeds that spring to mind if you want small and non/low shedding are poodle (toy or miniature) and bichon frise.
These are breeds which are often mixed with others to create the 'designer breeds' (actually crossbreeds) that you mention. Although those are often described as 'hypoallergenic', breeders can't genuinely make this claim for every dog, because they can't guarantee which parent it will take after in terms of its coat. For example, a cockerpoo may have a coat more like a cocker spaniel than a poodle.
