We've just put in a new window/patio door and in the first few months, we've been getting almost daily bird strikes. Most survive, but it's heartbreaking if they die. Anything I can do to warn them?

This was a baby wren from this morning, out cold for about 2 minutes, came back to life in my hands, then after scolding me severely, flew off to it's anxiously waiting mother.

We've tried sitting a lifesize china cat in front of the window, but the little buggers perched on it's ears and shat on it's head.

I've had quite a few as well and fortunately no fatalities (unless one of the many semi-wild cats has been cleaning up!).

I've not noticed it before but it could just be that I've been at home more with the lockdown.

Most have been young birds and I wonder whether it's a case of "I can either fly or steer, but not both"

It also mostly happens in the mornings when the sun is on the other side of the house - maybe reflections play a part in it.

Due to reflections as noted above. Not much you can do about it really

You cab get anti-stike stickers that are supposed to help the birds see that there's an obstruction:

I believe there's something like anti-reflective film that can be put over glass. Unfortunately I had an example of this the other day walking somewhere down in central London when a nuthatch smacked straight into a window a few storeys above me and the poor critter fell in front of me (and I missed catching it) and took a rather long time to expire. frown

Best bet is to put some stickers on the window, even small ones. If you feel like they make look stupid or get in the way of your view out the window.

Its the reflection that somehow the birds dont realise it, and fly straight into it head on.
