We have a french bulldog who is nearly 2, we have owned her since a puppy and are now really at our wits end.

When i bought her i was so frightened about breathing issues i went out of my way to buy a dog which had good looking nostrils which had parents with good nostrils along with gold and silver health testing.

I thought she was perfect! Until a few days later i noticed she barely had a tail.

As time has progressed we have found that we basically cant house train her. She pisses everywhere, and i mean everywhere. You can let her out first thing and she will wee but as soon as she's in she goes mad with it, pissing over sofas and whatever is in her path. If she gets upstairs then she goes to the beds and pisses on them. This stresses my wife out as she is constantly cleaning and tbh it really is becoming a problem.
If you put her outside when she's done a wee, she can be let back in 10 mins later and will wee again. The sheer amount of piss is staggering.

Now we believe that the lack of tail is causing some issue, tbh the vets dont really know or say a lot but she very rarely squats to wee, its all done in a trail, which makes it worse to clean.

This isn't excited pissing, which i am fine with, this is looking at you and just pissing.

On top of this she has urine infections regularly, when she does she basically not only pisses everywhere but she randomly leaks as well. this year she's on her third bout of anti biotics which is because my wife has been pregnant and all this virus stuff she hasn't been to the vets to be properly looked at. This is our imminent effort though as baby is now here. I am convinced that its something to do with her tail and perhaps causing issues with the bladder.

On top of this pissing problem- which i assure you is stressful as it is everywhere! she also will not learn to leave our daughters toys, she steals every thing, she breaks them, there is no telling her, i have tried the stones in a bottle thing, we have tried removing her, we have tried ignoring, we have tried shouting- she doesnt react or care. With a 4 yr old this is also bloody hard, as the child screams and effectively argues with her. My daughter is best friends with her so this constant taking and running off then the daughter screaming isn't bloody easy either. she will not learn, or easily at least, she runs off, she doesnt follow any commands like come here, she will sit for a treat but thats it.

Now on top of this when you pick her up, typically at night to put her in her bed she has started growling at us.

We are quite stressed by this, we now also have a new baby and i just know that as soon as she's gets the opportunity she will be pissing on her stuff and taking whatever she can.

Is she perhaps in some pain because of the tail, the vets haven't been that helpful at all tbh, even if there is some pain to explain the wee situation it wouldn't explain the reason she constantly takes toys and destroys them or won't give them back.

I have only ever had staffs which are the polar opposite of this, they sort of look at you as if to say they are sorry hehe even if they havent done anything, this dog does not give a st frown

I really dont know what to do.

Haven't a clue about the weeing, it does sound strange, but interesting as we have a Frenchie so interesting to follow this.

Wonder if the toy destroying is boredom, also in my experience Frenchies can be naughty, it just seems to be in their character.

May well be feeding off yours and your wife's stress and also a new baby, there may be a touch of jealousy perhaps.

Multiple frenchies here. Sounds like you need a new vet as a starting point. Could be multiple health issues here any of which require immediate attention

Like doctors there’s good bad and indifferent if your not getting anywhere take a second opinion for the urine infections if there’s an underlying health issue get it treated ASAP oh and the tail should be nothing more than a stub so don’t worry about that

As for the behaviour dogs are incredibly complicated animals and there’s dozens of different factors at play most of which you will have control over speak to a dog behaviouralist. For advice on adapting yours and the dogs environment and both you and the families approach.

Dogs do pick up on stress and external factors so remember he/she isn’t just a pet but a member of the family too. Frenchies as a breed are very social and will want to play and be involved. They also need stimulation. Think of it as you actually have 2 4 yr olds not just one.

We only brought he baby home yesterday hehe

Yes maybe we should try another vet, we have had issues with most of them round here frown

The tail is a definite fault, it is minuscule and leaves her bum on display (nice) it isn't inverted but its close, it must be 5mm long frown

Its a shame because when she isn't pissing or stealing stuff she's actually a nice dog. She is very very interested in the baby and we are letting her get close so we dont stoke any issues there.

you do realise when we're talking dogs its mandatory to post pics smile

but medical problems first - deal with that and you'll find you have a happier healthier dog to start from.

from there it sounds like you have some work to do but its all about taking the right approach.
get her fit and well then speak to a dog behavourist for some advice where abouts in the UK are you?
