Wood pigeons generally mate for life.

Yes, wood pigeons as said above and also collared doves. You'll often see pairs of both species together, resting up and necking. Not to mention bonking displays by the woodies.

In my experience there is Always a 3rd male hanging around like a spare part. We have a pair of woodies and collared doves in the garden and there’s a spare of each. The ‘spare’ collared dove got eaten by a sparrowhawk recently and it was only 2 days until another spare male arrived. Maybe they’re opportunistic breeders as it were?

These two are always mucking around in our garden. I think they want to bath together?

I will have to get a bigger bird bath though.

Shooting Pigeons over Decoys, its normal to add the first few shot/dead ones as extra decoys.
Very common to see birds coming down and immediately trying to 'Hump' the dead ones.
Relationships Hmmm.
Strange ones!

That's why I slow down to 0.0001mph every 50 yards every morning so the slow sleepy pigeons get out the way. I'd feel upset widdowing one.

I believe so. My brother saw a peregrine catch one and it was (quite bravely) mobbed by another pigeon while returning.

They are decimating crops at the moment.
Its amazing how much damage they do to a field of sprouting greens.
Real problem for Farmers.

I was having fun with my pigeon photos. To be serious they are a pest, my son called them "Flying Rats". Just look at the damage they cause to historical buildings and monuments.

Tell you what, lets give them all first names and they can come and live in our houses.
I'm talking about Wood Pigeons.
Not the Scabby Town Pigeons which carry all sorts of disease.
Even London has banned feeding them, they are so dirty.
