After sadly having our beloved Keira (large munsterlander) put to sleep last month at the grand old age of 14 past , we have been getting round to cancelling pet insurance amongst other bits and bobs. After phoning them they were very helpful and we subsequently received a email , some of which I have pasted below.

“ We were all very sad to hear your news that Kiera had sadly passed away.

I can confirm that your policy has been cancelled as requested. I note that your May payment of £25.80 has already been requested with the bank. I will ensure this is refunded to you. Once processed this will take 2-3 days to clear in your account.

I know it must be a very difficult time for you. We get so attached to our pets that they naturally become part of our family and losing them is a very hard thing to face.

To give you some words of comfort at least Kiera had a lovely home with you and I hope, in time, your hurt will heal and you think of all the lovely times that you shared together.

Kind Regards, “

Don’t know about anyone else but i thought this was a lovely personal touch and made my day basically ! (Obviously wasn’t bothered about the money refund )

Company is Animal Friends Pet Insurance if anyone is currently looking at pet insurance.

We had no problems with multiple claims on Keira last year (never used to claim just pay the usually smallish bill) as she had at least three largish ops for tumours etc. Think it was couple thousand all in.

That's nice.

Although it reminds me of a job I applied for in the 80s, when PCs were quite a new thing. Didn't get the job, but got a really nice letter telling me how close I got, wishing me all the best for the future and saying they were sure I'd find something soon and make a big success of it.

All very encouraging, apart from, at the bottom of the letter, in small font, "standard reject letter.doc". rofl

OP.
Sorry to hear that you lost your friend.
Just interested if you have had to claim against your policy with Animal Friends in the past.
Our pet insurance is due for renewal and they are nearly 1/3 the price of another provider.

Funny thing insurance, of all types, you never know what your actually going to get in service until a claim is made, and the vast majority never claim on policies, so then its down to the price of the premium that every one basis their opinion, which is sketchy, as that's not really the reason you should purchase.
Been with "Bought by many ", and made a 7k claim very recently, and can honestly say it was a pleasure dealing with their customer service department, constant updates on how the claim was progressing, and paid out very quickly, couldn't fault them at all.

Hi , thank you.

Yes we claimed at least three times for her last year. They wanted plenty details etc but no haggling over amount , so no complaints at all. Our other dog is still insured with them.

I'm with them. They haven't bothered answering my recent emails.

You may be aware of this, but just to note that if you have claimed for anything with your current provider, it will probably be excluded under any new policy.

Thank you to both that responded to my post.

Good to hear that there have been no quibbles with a claim ( My vet is fantastic and deals with the insurance company on my behalf).

Also, none of my dogs have existing claims so, no worries there.

We had a similar note when cancelling a policy after our old collie cross was pts at 18. Stayed with Animal Friends for some years now and was slightly miffed to get the renewal note for our other dog, a 7 year old springer, showing a premium increase of £120 a year! £660pa is more than I pay for my cars!

Time to try money supermarket methinks!

There are certain age 'thresholds' when insurance premiums tend to go up steeply and 7/8 is one of them I think.

Will be an interesting conversation with Direct Line on Monday, new price is 151% of last years (£537 from £335) no claims or even spoken to them about anything.
So he’s now just £31 less to insure than a Supercharged Range Rover 😳
