Hi all

Can anyone let me know a rough cost of what it would be to put two cats in a decent cattery for a fortnight?

We’re planning a trip away and have a friend house/cat sitting and think it’s only fair to give them the cash that we would have spent on a cattery as a thank you.

Cheers

I would suggest that the cost a cattery for the period is an irrelevant measure, as a Cattery has overheads, need to make a profit, and won't later do you a favor in return.

Think about what you feel is a suitable token of your appreciation.

Our two cost £15 per day in a shared pen so £105 per week.

Yep, agreed, just thinking out loud.

Yep. They’re quite shy cats and not the best with travelling, so leaving them at home is the preferred option!

We hired a cat sitter which was £10 per day. Girl came in for 30mins or so feed/watered our little monster and played with him a little - also sent us (mrs iroc) pics/video a couple of times. Had we had 2 or 3 cats there'd have been no extra charge

We pay a fiver a visit for our cat sitter to come and look after our two.

It's worth every penny. I couldn't put our female into a cattery, she would be utterly terrified.

Thanks for the replies.

Putting them into a cattery is an absolute last resort. They went once for a week several years ago (and they seemed fine to be fair) but there was no alternative then. Since then we've had parents cat/house sitting but now they're unable to so we're relying on friends.

Paying a stranger to come and feed them wouldn't work sadly due to the business being based at home and security etc. My parents did have someone do this for them years ago though and it worked well.

Wife preferrs ours to be in a cattery as it's worry free - left to roam around their home area ours are always getting into scrapes or disappearing for a couple of days etc.

I'm not sure how much the cattery we use costs - it sounds lovely, the cats live in a villa, apparently - a gentle enquiry about the cost was met with rolled eyes. I did suggest that having them put to sleep and then getting new cats on our return would be cheaper, but that idea wasn't well received.

Makes sense. Ours are house cats though so not nearly as much worry!

Harsh!

You would be surprised at how fast cats adapt to a new regular meal source.

Will probably be disappointed to see you back biggrin

It depends on the cat I suppose, but our female is very timid and our house is her safe space. I couldn't imagine taking her somewhere else while there's an alternative available.

We took our ginger tom to a cattery several years ago and, although I may be projecting, he seemed very happy to be home when we got him back.

We used Petpals for our cats for a few years when we lived out by Saffron Walden.

Great service if you have one local: https://www.petpals.com/smile
