After a Golden Retriever
Discussion
Does it have to be a Pedigree Goldie?
(silly question I suppose this being Pistonheads, I don't think I've yet seen a picture of a mongrel on the Photos of your Dogs thread)
There will be plenty of Golden Retriever X's out there in need of re-homing that will come with all the temperament, character and personality of a Retriever and also less likelihood of genetic problems.

Off topic - I've certainly posted pictures of my 'mongrels' on here, and there are plenty of photos of lovely crossbreeds in that thread, along with the lovely purebreeds.(silly question I suppose this being Pistonheads, I don't think I've yet seen a picture of a mongrel on the Photos of your Dogs thread)
On topic - Coronavirus is obviously affecting many rescue organisations, including the one below, but if you're willing to wait, they have various dogs awaiting adoption:

This is a rescue I've adopted from, who often have Golden Retrievers, although they don't have any at the moment:

Dont breed and buy, while others die.
Get a rescue plenty of them.
Ugh. While I love to rescue animals they are much harder work generally, than a puppy and certainly the dogs that really need rescuing (IE the abandoned / abused dogs) are not for owners who are out working often (as HantsRat is, being a member of the Fifty) and not really recommended for inexperienced dog owners.Get a rescue plenty of them.
We tried very hard to adopt but the adoptions centers (NAWT and Dogs Trust) made it out like they were doing YOU the favour.
Dogs Trust especially were a bunch of muppets.
NAWT had a dog, we did lots of trial visits. 6 actually,at 60 mile round trip per time. As we already have a Rescue. We wanted to make sure they got along. They did, in the open ground. It seemed OK. We wanted to bring the rescue dog home for a Trial visit at home, overnight to make sure there were no issues but they would not allow it.
Eventually we brought her home and she immediately became aggressive towards our other dog who was petrified and wouldn't even come downstairs - We took her back the next day unfortunately, £150 lighter for the pleasure plus a little more for things like a name tag etc. NAWT offered little to no support in this situation.
we are both experienced dog owners myself I have raised a litter of spaniels and had 3 dogs myself and my GF also owning dogs most of her life. But in this particular case it was too much.
We ended up getting a F1 Labradoodle puppy for around £550 from a local breeder. She has been a pain in her own way, yes she left dog eggs all over the floor, managed to piss on the smallest part of exposed carpet as a puppy and even chewed my phone and broke the screen (£250 thank you). - but now she is such a happy and fantastically funny girl who is so well behaved and yet cheeky and I adore her - I don't regret not persevering with a rescue given the issues she had with our existing Dog.. Certainly for some breeds you are very hard pressed to find a "rescue" and likewise you cannot replicate the bonding feeling you get raising a puppy from 8/12 weeks old and having photos throughout them "growing up" is a feeling you can't replicate with a rescue.
At her upcoming season we will be breeding her and then keeping one of the puppies ourselves.

I agree the sentitment but not everyone is able to manage a rescue, and they would like to get a puppy of a particular breed. Get a rescue plenty of them.
Not everyone wants a rescue, some want the full puppy pissing, stting and chewing experience...
And we’ve got a rescue dog along with 3 others from puppies before anyone jumps from their moral high ground...

Hi All,
I'm after a gold retriever. Can anyone recommend any breeders near to Hampshire? Obviously must be legitimate, not scum that sell puppies out the back of a van.
There is a good Golden puppy group on Facebook if you’re on there?I'm after a gold retriever. Can anyone recommend any breeders near to Hampshire? Obviously must be legitimate, not scum that sell puppies out the back of a van.
“Golden retriever puppies in the U.K. from health tested parents”
Closed group you need to ask to join. Lots of dodgy ones around just now, watch for he ones asking for deposit to even go on a waiting list for a pup and don’t give them the time of day!

This is a very good FB group, they check all the information before the adverts go online, it's where I saw one of my retriever pups advertised. So many people are looking for pups at the moment. If you are looking for a rescue / rehome then as someone has also mentioned Irish Retriever Rescue is good (not all the dogs are from Ireland). Good luck in your search.“Golden retriever puppies in the U.K. from health tested parents”

The prices are outrageous at the moment. Dogs are in huge demand for company and getting out in this lockdown.
Once people are back to work the dogs aren't going to fit into lifestyles. I'm expecting lots of dogs needing rehomed in the near future.
It does appear to have gone a little bit mad, and like you I do wonder/worry there will be a spike in rescues in a few months time.Once people are back to work the dogs aren't going to fit into lifestyles. I'm expecting lots of dogs needing rehomed in the near future.
We have been considering a Golden Retriever for a while now, likely a rescue, so the links on here have been good. As said a lot have reduced operations during the pandemic for obvious reasons.
There are certainly a lot less goldens up for rehoming than Lurchers, but we shall carry on keeping and eye out.

Contact the secretary of a couple of the breed clubs - they usually know whos who. Check the Kennel Club website for the health tests recommended for the breed and ensure these are done and copies available. The difference in cost between a cheaper poorly bred pup and one where everything is done correctly will soon be swallowed up in vets bills.
I agree its great to have a rescue dog but some are other peoples mistakes and are not for novices or the fainthearted. After all,if they are healthy, well trained and socialised they would easily find a home even when older, ask yourself why would they be in a rescue?

I'm also a great rescue fan. Depending on the breed, there may be many reasons why the dog is in rescue. But the best place to rescue from is a breed rescue . Quick check on Goldie rescue turns up this
