BEER BOX .. NEST BOX

While I’ve been at home during lockdown etc. the empty beer boxes seemed to pile up. We get a lot of birds in our garden and I thought about building some nest boxes. The empty beer boxes seemed to be an ideal size & shape for most species. I had some fencing wood left over ( from Wicks ) which was cheap to buy anyway, so decided clad the boxes with wood glue and screws, together with some old slate for the roof. Almost immediately we had Great Tits building a nest in one of the boxes. It was one of the painted boxes also.. which at first I thought may put the birds off. Paint is ‘Garden Colours’ from Homebase ( cheapish ). Anyway very satisfactory result! Just an idea for you. Enjoy. P.S the front lower panel just screwed in place to allow me to clean the box out after nesting complete.
