What a gorgeous dog, and a wonderful long life (although I know it's never long enough).

My sympathies.

Balls. Never good. Although I always think it’s the last kind thing we can do for our pets.

My GF is a vet and she’s finding it really hard at the moment. She’s had to put pets to sleep during the lockdown, but because of RCVS/BVA guidance, she can’t do it with the owner present, so she’s the one there with them until the very end. She feels bad the owners don’t get the privilege of being there and it’s also emotionally hard on her being on her own with them. We don’t live together, so I can’t even give her a hug when she comes to collect my dog to take him for a walk.

Not that it should make any difference but I did explain to the vet that our whole family has been isolated for 3 weeks. Both the vet and nurse were as kind as you could imagine. We and they and stayed with Jas to the end.

How long do tortoises live?;)

Unfortunately some people will say they’re not ill/have been isolating when they are/haven’t. Some people are utter sts, so she can’t take any risks. It’s the usual case of a very few ruining it for the vast majority.

I’m really not a huge fan of people.

Really sad to read what your GF is having to go through. It must be tough for her at the moment.

What our front line staff are doing at the moment is incredible.

I hope this will be remembered when this is all over.

Hope you and the idiot are doing well.

Sorry to hear that, you'll be lost at the moment.

I was lucky enough to have Milo, my black lab, for almost 15 years.

Had my 15 year old jack put to sleep last march after 15 years with him, had him since I was 7 so I know how you feel. I've just got to the point where i can talk about him without welling up and having to find an excuse to leave the room. They give us so much more than we can ever give them. Jas was beautiful.

Its true that after time it stops hurting as much and it's the happy memories that you remember.

Thanks all. Stupid bit is I still wake up at 5:30am ready to "let her out in the morning".

As I said she had an amazing life. Grew up in an activity centre with nearly 300 acres to roam, literally hundreds of children to play with, a river to swim in and pheasants to chase, which I don't think she never managed to catch.

For retirement a sunny garden, family at home most of the day with her and weekly treats from visiting relatives.

Been on Loxicom for nearly a year but she went down hill very, very quickly. Chasing next doors cat before lunch, gone by dinner.

As sad as it is she had a very good life and reached a decent age.

I hope I'm as lucky!

Sorry to hear your news, I dread this day, he is 9 at the moment but we've had some tumour scares the last few years.

We have a new arrival due in November so I just can't wait for him to be a big brother.

Commiserations. I've had two similar cases in past ten years so I know the feeling. One who was portly, till we looked underneath. Scan organised for next day. He never made it through the night. Second one six years later. Thursday she had problems on a rear leg. Saturday ,she collapsed in her bed . Vet said we could go for treatment, but he was not hopeful. She said "Dad end it, I'm in pain". She came from a puppy farm to do as I asked. I'm proud to say I did as she asked.
They give us so much love and in the end only ask one thing of us- the right to end their days in dignity.
