Generally a good way of cleaning skulls is to let nature do it. Maggots do it very nicely then leave it in the sun to bleach.
Bleach liquid does a good job too, but dissolves all the organic material and the ligament that holds the teeth in,thats why they have dropped out. You can glue them in with a bit of bostick or similar.

That word 'Generally' gives me cause for concern with your post.Bleach liquid does a good job too, but dissolves all the organic material and the ligament that holds the teeth in,thats why they have dropped out. You can glue them in with a bit of bostick or similar.

Closed by government advice until we can get ppe. No ppe available for dentists at present, all going to icu units quite rightly.Dentists are concerned that we may never be able to return to work for routine dental care for at least a year, 18 months at least.

This isn't entirely the case. I bought a badger skull home yesterday and the teeth all starting falling out the second I picked it up, that's just natural as they loosen with no gum to hold them in. Doesn't seem to happen quite the same with human skulls. I lost a few of the front ones but kept the important canines and have glued them back in.Bleach liquid does a good job too, but dissolves all the organic material and the ligament that holds the teeth in,thats why they have dropped out. I've also bleached it over night and although not glistening yet it is looking better.
Apparently hydrogen peroxide is quite good at getting the whitening effect.
Back in the early eighties when I studied human anatomy, quite a few of the human skulls had the dried remnants of fly larvae lodged in the nooks and crannies. Apparently they were sourced from India but I have no evidence of that. Here is a fox skull that I prepared a few years ago, just fly larvae and sunshine. Similar to a badger but you can see the nasal bones still have open sutures, whereas the badger ones are fused.
