Or "birding" if you prefer.

I'm not a bird watcher but my father is an obsessive one who has traveled the world doing it. (6.5k world list if anyone is interested.) Anyone know of any good books about bird watching that would be fun to read for a non-birder like me who has an interest in the topic?

Edited to add that Bill Bailey's Remarkable Guide looks like a contender but might be too much about the birds, rather than the people.

The Collins Bird Guide is generally considered to be the definitive guide, but it is purely a reference book.

Bird Watching magazine, which is issued monthly, is a good introduction.

There will be lots of "introduction" type books which will give basic information about how to approach the hobby, etiquette, etc, but I can't give any recommendations as all my books are reference guides.

Sorry for not asking my question very well. Having observed my father's obsession I've no inclination to start bird watching but I find the hobby interesting. I've been on days out with him where other birders think I'm one of them and it can get a bit funny. I also know about twitching and actually have first hand experience by acting as driver for my elderly father on the last twitch he did (Slaty backed gull).

Since my first post I think I might have found the book I want.

In my younger days I found the "miniskirticus " female a subject worthy of examination. Long legs with a rear end covering of minimal length, this bird attracted a lot of attention in the male world smokin
