Boy or Girl Puppy?
Discussion
amongst all the madness this is a good time for us to get a puppy as I am not travelling for the foreseeable future (and regardless of my daughter's promises I will train a new puppy).
We currently have a 10 year old Yorkie (male and castrated) and have been offer a Maltese/Yorkie cross, either a female or male. I think male as there will be no problems with the current dog getting 'excited' every few months. My wife and daughter think they will fight.
Does anyone have any advice?
Thanks.

I've had various mixes of genders. The only time I had a problem was between two females, although I had owned two other females previously without any issues. It is very much dependent on the individual dogs.
I've had several groups of dogs, and tend to have multiple male dogs but only one female.
Has your dog had much interaction with other dogs? If so, does he seem to prefer males or females, or no preference?
Males can fight, but in my experience, it tends to be 'handbags' and much less serious than females fighting.
If you get a female and have her spayed, you won't need to worry about your existing dog getting 'excited', castrated or not.

Prefer female myself, get tired of dogs 'marking' every hundred yards when out walking.
Depends on the breed/breed mix I find. Female Shelty cross I had was a high MPG dog. But the terriers I've had recently ( both male and female) who've had the bits removed still mark as often as possible. I tend to find a park where dogs can be let off lead and let them enjoy themselves sniffing and marking. They invented social media long before us.
