Our 80 year old next door neighbour has acquired a circa 9 year old ickle terrier rescue dog which we take out for walks, which she loves.

She's pretty quiet, but has a few traits that suggest she hasn't had an easy previous life.

1. Very difficult to get her to look directly at you- always wants to avert her eyes.
2. Whole body trembles, particularly back legs when asked to 'sit', which she does ok.
3. After 4 months, still does not respond to her name.
4.Still will not respond to 'Heel' command.

Its a shame, always pleased to see us,wags tail etc., loves walking, just seems hard to get any general interaction with her, owner reports the same. I have to say, we are not experienced doggy people, although her new owner is, both of us are perplexed about this dog.

Any ideas?

2/ That's what terriers do when excited. Bundles of nervous energy. Just wait till they spot something small and furry.

4/ It might never have been trained to heel. Easily excited and distracted (refer to point 2). Also depends who dog thinks is the top dog in the relationship (walker or dog).

No idea but I’m thinking lots of training treats. smile

Make sitting not a bad experience. If the shaking isn’t excitement.

She always seems pretty disinterested in training treats- might nibble at one then turns away. Very unusual.
