Friends have had their pub flooded a couple weeks ago in the recent storms and have had to close it for 5 weeks.

When it happened I went down there and we swan the dogs out of the pub so I could take them back to my place.

I have a 4 year old male choc labrador, theirs are a 7 year old male black lab and an 11 year old female choc lab.

Mine and the 7yo are really soft and never show any aggression, the 11yo can be a bit snappy with other dogs but never mine and she's not the issue.

For the last twelve days they have got on great. Play together, sleep together during the day. Ours comes upstairs with us during the evening.

I walk them down to see the owners most days, sometimes they come up and visit.

This evening one of the owners came to visit, lots of fussing of all dogs.

After he left mine and the 7 yo started growling at each other. Then lunge at each other, teeth bared. I was very close so grabbed collars and got them to lie down.

It then happened again in the house and once in the garden.

I assume it's a jealousy issue and wanted to know if anyone had any ideas of cause and how best to manage.

At the mo they are going home on Monday but want to try and avoid any issues in future if/when they stay together again.

As it seems to have been triggered by the general excitement and fussing of the owner visiting surely the simplest solution is for any further visits to keep the dogs separated? Either you take yours out or the owner takes their dogs out?

Labs, now let me guess...one spotted the extra teaspoon of food you gave the other at feeding time :-)
