Hi all, we bought a house that came with a pond stocked with fish and as the pond has sprung a leak it seems a good time to try and dispose of them and demolish the pond (it is a raised brick built number).

Where would one go about selling their fish? Local aquatic centres are not able to buy them from us but if there are good websites for such things we would be interested in knowing about them.

In case anyone is interested we have the following:

1no 2ft Mirror Carp orange/red colour
3no large Koi orange/white/mixed
1no Rudd
6no smaller Koi

All of the Koi are British or Japanese apparently - open to offers and advice.

You may end up giving them away. Mine have been given to me over the years and if I needed rid I'd pass them on to anybody who was able to care for them properly.

It costs nothing to list aquatic stuff here - http://www.aquarist-classifieds.co.uk/

Worth a try before giving them away via a local Facebook group or similar

Good luck

If you are unable to sell them, there appears to be a rescue on Facebook:

Very recently my best mates dad died. He was an enthusiast like myself and had spent about £50k on fish. He had the same problem where the filtration system developed problems and he needed to shift them within days - at the time I couldn’t take any off him as I was away but put him in contact with a very reputable dealer. In turn this dealer put another chap forward who paid him £250 for the lot. I was gutted for him and wished the timing had of been better so I could have helped out.

Giving them away will more than likely be the option... unfortunately keeping koi is not as popular nowadays. Most importantly is finding someone who will look after them properly. The main things being, water condition & not feeding when pond water is below 10 degrees. Good luck anyway.

Large fish aren't easy to move, so you really need to find someone local to take them.

I've got two large ghost koi and three orfe that I've had for 22 years, plus a smaller goldfish that I'd like to rehome (together) for free, but I'd only let them go to someone who I'm sure would look after them.

I'm 5 miles sw of Chester btw if anyone is interested.

22 years?!?! Wow, didn't realise they lived so long, I have 4 pretty large Orfe that I've had for about 10 years now and I thought they must be getting close to old age, but I guess not.
