Popped out at about 17:00hrs for an hour and wife meets me with something in her arms. A neighbour had come round as they had found a kitten crying in the garden next door to us at another property we own and wanted us to unlock a gate.
Anyway we now have an overnight houseguest. Very friendly, maybe 8 weeks old. Currently wife has posted on Fbook as found. Tomorrow will take it to vets locally. Genuinely hope it wasn’t just dumped and it can be reunited with owner.

I expected that hyphen and take it on the chin. It has been suggested by several people that I am the victim of an elaborate ruse. Two dogs, cat, 15 to 120 chickens (it varies)and 1 fish.

It will not be staying this time.

If you don’t find the owner and want me to come and pick it up this weekend, I will... seriously.

Kind offer See five. We are in Malvern, Worcs. Another local Fbook post last night suggests someone has found another within 1/2 mile of here. It’s got fleas, spotted this morning. Really don’t think it’s feral as it’s very friendly.

Going to take it to vets this morning when they open so they can pass it on to rescue shelter. We have possibly 4 vets here but going to use one near our home and between us and where other one was found.

Someone I believe has probably dumped it the poor mite.

See Five the vets will be “Friends “ in Malvern Link, WR14 1AA. 01684 573333 if you really want this kitten I’m sure they will be glad to see it homed quickly. We can’t keep it as it’s just not possible at the moment.

Careful what you say about it online, not unknown for people to use free animals for dog training. Killing them that is.

We got one of ours as a street stray from a kitten, recon he was dumped for a heart murmur.

Update. Took kitten to vets, 6 weeks old estimate. On way round 50yds from where it was found another same age but black and white has been squashed on the main road since yesterday afternoon.

Anyway we searched to see if any others locally and then took the little grey kitten to the RSPCA in Worcester “The Holdings”. They say he will be found a good home.

If anyone out there is struggling financially vets are offering a neutering service for cats for £5. I believe this is all over the country.

Aw, that must have been awful to see. What is wrong with people dumping animals at all, let alone at such a vulnerable time in their lives? Your kit looked a bit older than 6 weeks in the picture, very surprised to hear that estimate, did the person holding it have very small hands? wink

We have no other “legged” pets currently, just fish. My problem is that I am a soft bugger, and can only accommodate one cat at present. I have previously gone to get “just one” cat from a pet shop (back in the day) and rescue centre and come back with multiples. Twice in my life we have gone to get a kitten, and each time there have been two... so you can’t leave one there feeling rejected and lonely without his/her brother/sister can you?!! You guessed it. Hello dear, erm... good news... we have twins!

My situation is that due to divorce, me and the new missus are currently catless and your find seemed a way that I could definitely give “just one” cat a chance, and possibly save you all the hassle you had this morning. I would have been very happy to pick up the little one and put him/her through a local vet here in Pompey.

Thanks for the update and contact details. I just had a look at The Holdings website and will confirm with the OH (she’ll be fine) and give them a bell and see what the situation is on the little grey one just in. If we are successful, expect lots of pics over the years on the Caturday thread.

Well done for stepping in by the way thumbup

Will do. Feeling like it may not happen though.

The missus is really keen from the picture of your little find. Same reaction as me. We really wanted a grey kitten and finding one is proving ridiculously difficult. So I was thrilled to see your post and seeming reluctance to add to your existing menagerie. Hence registering the interest.

But. We may have a problem. The Holdings have a policy of inspecting every new home where they place an animal. We are in Portsmouth, which might be a stretch for them I guess. So, unless they can bend their policy or get another RSPCA branch to inspect here, I reckon they will only place your kitten locally.

Will have a chat tomorrow, but I am setting expectation at ready to be gutted level frown

Gutted at this end C5. Wife just said had we known how serious you were we could have kept it for a few days for you. I did wonder who would spend that much time and fuel to come all this way for a stray. Then I just worked out “See Five” meaning and clearly a bit of fuel doesn’t worry you!

I will PM you my number and see if there is anything we can do. Mike

Don't worry yet, they may well just have someone local look.

We adopted a cat from the RSPCA branch in Stoke-on-Trent (seen initially online) but lived in Sheffield at the time. After we went to see the cat in their Stoke shelter, they were more than happy to let us collect him on a return visit after arranging for someone from our local Sheffield branch to carry out the home inspection/visit, so hopefully they can do the same for you - this was only about 2 years ago.

Disappointing day. It looks like we will not be able to get a cat from any rescue unless it is an indoor cat.

We live in a marina with deep water for boat mornings at the bottom of the garden and vertical concrete sides. I knew they can swim, but apparently they will drown if they can’t get out reasonably quickly. It’s not like they go swimming, I am aware that most cats avoid water but apparently they can easily fall in at a place like this as they chase birds/fish/insects or explore their curiosities.

Now I can make floating islands and ramps for a cat to get out of the water on my pontoon / boat swim platform should it fall in at my house, but can’t do it for all the neighbours should it fall in on its travels. Was having a chat with neighbours who have cats, asked if they got from a cat rescue place, and no, they couldn’t - their places failed inspection. They still bought cats privately however, despite being aware of a couple drowning previously. Hmmm.

Given that situation, unfortunately we will not be getting a cat until we move house. I could not stand the thought of a cat under my care getting into trouble on its travels and drowning.

Really sorry to mess you around Mike. Thanks for taking the time to suggest help and I hope the little one finds a safe home with caring humans. In many ways, I am glad I didn’t get across to pick it up without getting some more info on our suitability. I would never have forgiven myself if it all went wrong.

SeeFive - cats are one of the most popular pets on boats, even live on moored house boats/canal boats. So perhaps keep an eye out for one that is used to living near water.
