Farmer I know of has one Connemara mare in a field, with no shelter whatsoever. Left out day and night.

I understand them to be tough but... I thought all horses should have some form of shelter. From the elements and from the sun if need be.

Thoughts?

Unless you're half way up a mountain on the west coast of Ireland, it should be fine...

So no shelter at all is ok, this winter?? Just to clarify.

Yes this is fine. We had a throughbred/Hanovarian who pretty much refused to use her stable, field shelter etc. but she did have a rug. It is preferred that any horse has the option of shelter , a tree or similar but its not actually cruel if they dont.
