Our local Fishmonger often has very fresh Lobsters. They are on ice but still moving. I've often been tempted to buy one to try and 'save' as a one off.

Over to you Lobster experts.

Would the old boy be too far gone at this stage ?

Can you guarantee they are locally caught? If not then you may inadvertently introduce an invasive specifies which can decimate the local population.

Plus it would have to be returned to the sea, not freshwater.

save it from what though? It would probably end up being caught again or eaten by a predator. Animals are there to be eaten, it is all natural.

I'm pretty sure that one lobster returned on it's own to a freshwater river a la the crayfish, will have more on it's hands, sorry claws, than to start having sex and taking over the UK.

If you want to save it then there are plenty of ways to do it. You need a tank of sea water etc and then just feed it. Restaurants do this so it is not rocket science, you then get a rather unusual pet.... smile

Of course it takes money and time though it would make rather an interesting story. In this modern day and age you could make some money out of it. Not saying your Samaritan attitude should be monetised but that could be a way forward.

I've booked marked this page and already hired a lawyer just in case you "take off" with a hollywood blockbuster any time soon ....

I know someone who did exactly that, and has a few now. He keeps them in a saltwater tank.

OK Thanks for those words of wisdom lol ! If someone said to you while you were over the coals hey fancy another few days of life you would you say .... Nah... I would probably end up being caught again or eaten by a predator. I'm just here to be eaten, it is all natural. Let me die.

At which point the fishmonger puts in an order for two more lobsters, one for when the OP comes back and one to make sure he can cope with anyone else that wants one.

If we all just bought a lobster a week to put back in the sea there would be a fantastic return for fishmongers and lobsters would finally be able to tell tales as tall as Tiddler.
