Help - dog HATES one specific car...
Discussion
We rescued Merlin (border collie/German shepherd Cross) from a family friend. His owner had died unexpectedly last year, and her daughter had been struggling massively to try and keep the dogs (great dane, giant schnauzer and Merlin!).
He's been great. Had to sort his diet, and lose some weight. Coat needed huge amounts of work and effort to get back into decent condition.
Walking - he pulls. We've been trying one trainer, however she only has one approach which simply isn't working with him (relies on food being considered more important than smells - no hope!) - got a new trainer specialising in loose lead and recall on Thursday.
However, we have one specific issue - and don't know how to replicate the conditions in order to learn how better to manage.
Twice now, he's leapt towards the road, at full tilt - seemingly to chase the car off. Instantly.
Both times - same modified mk6 Fiesta.
Doesn't react at all to any other cars - zero interest or attention.
What could it be about this specific car? Any suggestions for how to try to manage this?
Happened first time not long after we got him, six months ago. Zero repeat, and perhaps a tad complacent.
Today, he was in the road, and I was on my arse not far from having my head over the kerb, after it came IP from behind us. I was looking at him as it happened - he went from sniffing at a telephone junction box quite chilled, to full leap, in under a second... Scared me stless, and thankfully nothing was following...
Any advice gratefully received!
Here's Merlin (he can also walk on walls...):
