Hi everyone!

Well, after many years, finally got permission to get a dog! But on the condition that it’s a Cockapoo. But I’m happy with that. 😊

Have started looking but it’s turned out to be harder than I thought. So far we’ve looked on the Pets4Homes website, rang about 5 different people. 3 didn’t answer the phone. One had none in the litter left and the latest rang alarm bells before we’ve even gone to view.

We’re wondering if a proper puppy breeder is the best way to do it? But not sure how to find a good one? Any recommendations? Any good sites where we could find recommended breeders?

Thanks for any help!

There is a few Facebook groups dedicated to Cockapoo, they would be a good start.

Be careful with prices though. Some people are taking the piss asking silly amounts for them. We have a F1 Cockapoo and paid £650 which is cheap. Saw an advert the other for 1600 which is mental. Some people see them as a designer dog and trying to make a quick buck

Thanks! Yes they seem to be big money due to popularity now. Did you get yours through a private advert?

My OH saw ours advertised on pets4home, and she was a licensed breeder. Defo try Facebook groups, as often people get recommended as breeders. Also keep trying with pets4home loads of them for sale, you might have been unlucky with the sellers you tried.

Where abouts are you in the country?

Im based in Reading. Try a group called Berkshire Cockapoo Bentley legacy. Its run by a lady who had a Cockapoo called Bentley who passed away but they do local meet up's around the Reading area. Often people post asking about breeders and they get lots of replies for recommendations.

Its a private group so you will need to ask to join, but worth posting in there.

My sister's got an apricot cockapoo. I guess it's an F1, she paid £1300 for the thing!
She lives in Cannock in the midlands, I could ask her where she got it from if it's not too far for you?

On my way to work I drive through Barnt Green in SW Birmingham, a quite affluent area. I must drive past 3-4 cockapoos every day!

That price is ridiculous and screams the breeder is just in it for the money. I just did a quick search, and close to where I live there is 5 or 6 adverts for Cockapoo's between 650 and 800. Why pay that much for a cross breed is mind boggling.

Cash crop mongrels.

Avoid and buy a normal breed or get a £30 mongrel from a rescue kennel.

They are normal breed in today's world, just not a pedigree that some people get funny about. A dog is a dog at the end of the day, no matter what breed.

FYI - A rescue dog is no longer £30. Most places want a donation to help support the charity and is around the £200-300 mark.

hehe Really? You do realise the Kennel Club have a pathological hatred of anything Doodley'????

We just had a Litter of 4 Golden Doodles and they went for 1k each, although we kept one. So we made 3K. From that 3K, we've spent well over 2k on Stud fee's, extra food for Mum, Vet's bills, food for puppies, chipping puppies, maintaining whelping environment etc etc. The whole process has basically just allowed us to have a cheap puppy from a mum we know and love....

So, unless you have a decent litter, there's not much money in it, so I can understand why any puppy costs a bit these days.....

Questions

1. What sort of flat/house do you live in and where.
2. How much time can you or paid people give to dog walking in woodlands / fields per day. Anything cocker loves that sort of stuff......
3. Why does it have to be a cockapoo apart from looks?
4. Why didn't you have any choice in the matter?

To me anyone selling dogs for money is less than anyone saving dogs for no money.

There's more than enough to go around after all. Sadly more than enough. frown

Love for dogs v capitalism and making a few bob ......

I can see this thread being a list of all that is wrong with dogs and breeding these days.

They are not a breed, they are a mongrel of other breeds.

2K stud fee to breed a mongrel Wow, you were well spotted through those massive windows.

Whilst I get the point you are making, it really doesnt warrant completely pissing over the OP's chips, as he is trying to do the right thing......

I understand that, but, anyone paying 1k for a mongrel is just feeding the problem, and there is problem.

I hope the OP gets a dog that they love but I also hope it's just a dog, not an alternative to drug dealing.
