Hi folks. My terrior Mavis has a sore bottom. It's not worms. We thought that the glands each side of her anus was the problem and so did the vet.
The vet has purged the glands but not much is coming out and now he is not sure what it is.

The symptoms are that she drags her bottom, normally when out for a walk before or after a poo. But not Allways.
Sometimes it's like she has been stung in he bottom and she reacts quick to lick or itch it.

Most other times she is absolutely fine and her poo's are normal etc allthough she eats a fair bit of grass for a little dog.

She is not a food mad dog and can be a bit choosy at times.

Had same issue with ours recently and it was diagnosed by our vet to be an abscess just inside her bumhole.

He said it was very common and nothing to worry about and a week of antibiotics cleared it up. Failing that she might have needed the dreaded drain with a needle.

Thanks. She has been examined today and nothing found. No excess anal gland fluid and I presume no absess.

If it was there the vet would be able to feel it.

The other possibility is that it has burst and dispersed.

Hopefully all is ok.

Our little rat dog showed exactly the same symptoms. Had an infection in the anal glands. Over several months the vet cleared it & then it would come back. Nothing seemed to stop it. In the end he had to have an op, which has cleared it totally & he's been fine ever since.

Allergies/atopy can manifest as an itchy bottom.
