Over the last 2 weeks we have had at least one big spider in our house every evening - always in our sitting room and I’ve just had one ceasing up the inside of my trouser which made be jump.

These are not regular spiders - they are meaty, hefty ones at least 60mm across and possibly a big as 75-80mm.

Not sure how to deal with them but I’m guessing we e got some sort of nest. I do t have any photos as I’ve been killing them all - they are to fast to catch- and always see them in our peripheral vision and they are like field mice in the speed and size they move.

Anyone else experiencing this at the moment?

Oh and to top it off we had a hornet fly OMG last night as we were about to go to bed so spent half an hour trying to find it after it had flown into our boiler cupboard.

Ha ha, grow some! You're a great big girl guide. They come into the house looking for females to mate with at this time of the year. They eat all sorts of nasty things you can't see and are welcome in my house.

At the moment I have a 'biggie' in the kitchen and I'm protecting him by removing those long legged skinny spiders that are absolute killers!

You'll be safe if you don't blink, lol.

I have proper Arachnophobia

There’s an absolute monster behind the bookcase, I’ve seen it peeking out from behind at the bottom a few times but it disappears again if you approach, certainty not enough time to get the hazmat suit and weapon

We move soon and I’ve listed said bookcase as included in the fixtures and fittings

I come from growing up in the sticks, I’d regularly wake to find dead mice next to my bed which the cat kindly presented me during the night, but spiders, nope not for me thanks

This year has been especially good weather wise for spiders https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/9739418/giant-spider...

Every day I go out to my car and there's an intricate spider web between the wing mirror and the wall which I have to destroy pulling away yet the next day it's back.

You wouldn’t say that if you’d been bitten by one and had a bad reaction; my wife got bitten by a Walnut Orb Weaver spider about 2years ago which gave her temporary paralysis of her arm for about 6hrs - has tracking up her arm for about a week and the bite turned really nasty.

There's a massive spider lurking 'somewhere' in the hallway. It was so big I could hear it running.

It was far too quick for me to catch and eject, but I don't mind them, as these things go.

Had some biggies running around the house just now unfortunately the cat likes to paw them to death if he spots one.

Got this handsome chap living outside just now seems to have been there all summer.

Same here - no issues with the lovely big chaps, but those long-legged swaying things can fk right off. I know it's a form of ethnic cleansing, but those feckers go straight up the vacuum cleaner hose!

Not to worry those with a case of Arachnophobia, but AIUI it's the males that we usually see seeking out females to mate with - but as usual in spiderworld it's the hidden females that are actually even larger!

unless the big house spiders land on my head I tend to leave them alone.. to maybe 1 a room! but I did go full ethnic cleanse on the false widows in the garage this summer, i'd love never see one of them again.

What’s wrong with the skinny ones?

My wife hates spids... but I quite like them and am always called upon to rescue them before she bops them. Been bitten a couple of times - not nice TBH - so always use a glass now.

I've noticed a lot more of these this year. I've started evicting them because they're killing the house spiders. They were mentioned briefly on Countryfile recently and it's the venom that kills the house spiders. I like my house spiders :-)
