The bottom line is I'm not sure, but it sounds like a Tawny Owl "ke-wick" to me. Little Owls have better day vision and poorer night vision than Tawny Owls, which is why you see them during the day / dusk. Tawny Owls generally come out when it's properly dark.

If you're really lucky you might see it. Even if it's only a dark shape you'll get an impression of size.

look for turds in the day. it will have a roost it uses regularly. turds are quite easy to find.

It's the pellets you need to look out for. They regurgitate them to get rid of bones etc
