Thinking of adding some to the land. Probably indian runners, they'll be setup near the dam, but they don't appear to be needing water so much as other duckies.
Hopefully the Guineafowl will help keep ticks away from the Alpacas and will probably roost in the trees.
I have read that if you get them young and keep them in the duck house (prior to the ducks) for a bit, they'll start to think of it as home.
We hope to put a vegetable garden down near the ducks/ Guineafowl and I believe this might work as unlike chickens, they won't tear it all apart quite so badly?

When I kept Hens & Ducks big thing I noticed was the volume of water the ducks needed to drink/puddle when eating, they needed to wash everything down. I’d to carry all my water & they made such a muddy mess around feeders/drinkers. Dam might be a bonus
(That said I loved my Indian Runners!)

So chickens vs ducks? Which were best?

Chickens destroyed everything with their claws, ducks digging with their beaks.

Cleaning out def Chickens, ducks muck always wet & stinking. Also because chickens roost they st under the perch so you can get them to st above a tray to remove & empty. (Ducks don’t perch as webbed feet)

Eggs, def chickens, eggs laid clean in nest boxes whereas ducks tended to st on theirs & always needed washed before putting in egg boxes

To watch runner ducks were pretty cool if a little nervous, chickens inquisitive & full of character.

We had 2 Kahki Campbell ducks. They were so lovely and unfortunately a very determined fox got to them in broad daylight one day.

If I knew I could 100% fox proof them without caging them I would get some again. They kept the slug population down brilliantly.

They did make a bit of a mess, but I gave them free run of the whole of the garden and could have quite easily kept them to just to grassy areas if needed.
