We had a Heron visit our pond about 3 weeks ago and managed to catch several of our bigger fish
The survivors have just started to emerge from behind the weeds. Last night I noticed one of them seems to missing his “nose area” and has a wound on its side. Having said that it appears tO be eating and swimming okay,.
Should we do anything?

Buy a blunderbuss!

Regarding the fish, I’d say just monitor it over the next month or so to make sure it’s not suffering. We had one that suffered damage when thieving scum dropped him during their attempts to empty the pond. He was fine for years.

Bongela works well on fish wounds/ulcers if you can catch it? Plus, adding some antibacterial treatment is probably a good shout

The barstewards emptied my pond of over 100 fish. Its a natural pond about 120 ft long and during the summer they can help themselves from 4am and later in the evening up to 11pm. They are protected so make sure any use of a blunderbuss has a silencer

In that case, netting is the only sure way I think,

If you can net your pond it is a secure way to stop the Heron. We also had a Cormorant which is a big bugger too

This worked for me:-

Remember the Heron has to wade into the pond so you only have to protect the shallow areas.

Or design the pond so they can’t access it from the banks.
