Hi all

Tony the Puggle has what appears to be cruciate ligament damage.

It looks like we are going to proceed with an operation. Does anyone have any recommendations for the surgeon?
Our vet does a basic op but says they'll Refer him to a specialist.
We are on Lancs Yorkshire border so Manchester through to Skipton areas.

Any info appreciated , thanks.

Try Bay vets in Lancaster.

There are two down here who are very, very good. Our dog was walking (slowly) a day after the Op.

I thought generally dogs under around 20kg didn't need a surgery to fix?

Ours which weighed 40kg had the lateral suture and worked a charm.

Well, Tony the Puggle had the operation on Tuesday.

Maybe this info will help others in the same position.

He had a TPLO rather than a TTA
It’s now Saturday and he’s recovering well.
After the operation he was feeling a bit sorry for himself, drugged up. He had a sling so that we could take the load off his back end as he walked.
He now has to live in his crate for 5 weeks and just come out for toilet. It’s to stop him jumping around or running upstairs.
He walked around the garden on all 4’s today, just lifts the leg if he wants to move faster.
He’s wearing ‘the cone of shame’ but he’s used to it now.

All going good smile

Any size can have surgery and often need it. Occasionally very small dogs don't if not too severe.

Once over 10kg rest alone becomes less successful (though not impossible)

OP glad things seemed to have gone well. I hope recovery goes smoothly.

Hydrotherapy and physiotherapy can speed up recovery once the initial healing has occurred. Can be good whilst under cage rest.

Yes, thanks for that. I can see a place at Clitheroe that does this.

Problem at the moment is that he wants to be up and away. He doesn’t know there’s anything wrong.

More work than kids....
