Strange one this

My ex left two years back to set up family with her new man.

She took the dogs too as my work patterns don’t work well for consistency.

Our boy is a lovely pedigree springer, he’s 10 years old and a lovely boy!

They now have a young baby and recently wispa has become slightly aggressive to the other dog at food time and tonight snapped at his new master when the dog was sniffing around the babies food.

He’s never attacked or shown aggression to people and was like a rock to our daughter.

The ex is talking about putting him down as I simply cannot have him back. He had had his rear knee strapped and stapled but he is active.

Would anyone here be willing to rehome this beautiful boy?

Indeed, I said I can’t have him back (he was my boy) and that it’s not fair to use emotional blackmail.

His issue is likely lack of interaction, fun challenges and exercise. Springers are highly affectionate and intelligent so need interaction and games.

Can't you have him back and get a dog walker to break up his day ?

Yes it's going to cost money but it gives the dog stability and you get your dog back .

Sorry to hear your predicament. I have been involved / donor to two charities, Spaniel Aid and Save our Spaniels. Both are on FB or have their own website. I am sure that both would be assist in your current situation.

Hope it works out well

Thanks will take a look

Last time I had him, he was a mess of matted fur and stench. No dog deserves this and he used to be so well looked after

WTF, its not white goods, when you get a dog you commit to taking care of it no matter what, cant just fking put it down when its too much hassle or inconvenient somehow! rolleyes

Good luck with the search, hope it works out for the poor dog!

Wish I could help but with 4 dogs already we couldn't really risk one that's dodgy with others around food.

Two things occur though:

- sudden changes in temperament ought to be checked out with the vet, because they can be a sign of illness/pain (although it may be down to the change in circumstances with a new baby)
- there is another spaniel rescue which I've heard good things about:

https://www.caessr.org.uk/

Very best of luck, I hate the oldies being abandoned in their hour of need frown

Guys

The ex may be many things but I know she won’t go through with having him put down, she’s just saying with the baby in the house if he can’t be rehomed then it’s her only choice.

Regardless of that risk, I’m not the solution.

But it’s clearly not her only choice though, is it?
