Anyone else made them? How did you get on?

Yeah, I've made some in the past.

You can find plans online, from one of the bat protection trusts, IIRC.

They're dead easy - anyone with even the most basic woodworking skills will manage, no problems.

Yes, but then the reason we made the was that the buildings were frequented by bats, anyway... obviously, it might have been a different matter if we'd just put them up speculatively.

I should probably add that from my (limited) understanding, different species of bats prefer different kinds of roosts, so if you've got them hanging around, it's worth finding our what kind they are, first. We borrowed a bat detector from one of the ecologists we used at work, at the time.

Can't lay claim to making them myself but I bought and installed one bat box and within a few weeks it was occupied so bought another three and installed on different walls round the house and again all occupied a few weeks later. Pipistrelles and Brown Long Eared bats. Great sitting outside on a summer evening with a glass in my hand watching them cartwheeling across the sky and keeping the bug population under control!

I need some more wood, my spare stash is a few pressure treated gravel boards. Apparantly bat's are sensitive soles and need untreated wood.
