Was going to add this to one of the other dog feeding threads but thought it maybe more specific.
We have two dogs, a 10 year old Springer that'll eat anything but was getting Arden Grange dry with a bit of Aldi canned meat added.
We also have a 3 year old Skye Terrier who was getting the same. She used to suffer a form of Colitis every 8 or 9 weeks. We put it down to her just being a bit fragile, long body, endangered breed etc etc. We used to just stop feeding for a day, start again on scrambled egg etc. (She also used to throw up a little bit of yellow bile in the mornings if we didn't get her out by about 8.30am (might be unrelated to this thread).
We had at the vet after Christmas and she suggested trying a grain free diet.
We put her on Pets at Homes' Wainwrights Grain free dry along with a bit of Wainwrights trays of grain free (sort of solid but moist).
So far the Colitis has not reoccurred.
A simple change of diet seems to have sorted her out. (fingers crossed).
We've now put the Springer on the Wainwrights dry to save having too many different sacks in the cupboard but have left her on the bit of added Aldi canned.
The only side effect I can see is that they both poo more!
Both dogs are otherwise healthy, the Springer more like a 10 month pup than a 10 year old dog. Constantly wanting to play. I put some of this down to the fact that she was spayed before her first heat (we were living on a farm with two male dogs at the time) and some of the growing up hormones never materialised.

My working GSP's are on a grain free diet (although not that brand) and do well on it, as does my terrier.

Try feeding royal canin hypoallergenic and nothing else - stick to it for a good 6 weeks. Any other food will ruin the ‘trial’. Grain free is a lot of marketing, some dogs will be better on it however dogs can be allergic or sensitive to anything eg chicken, beef, soya, wheat etc. It might be worth seeing your vet about the colitis as it could be caused but other, more serious things.

I've posted on this topic ,but perhaps my vote ( NO Association with firm) goes to Wainrights. Shona was an ex puppy farm dog ,and she had a tendency to not regulate. We got ,the occasional mess on paper. After Wainrights, the mess got less and less.
