What are you feeding your dogs?
Discussion
Just interested to find out what type of food you are feeding your dogs, and whether you go for dry or wet food.
We currently have a 6month old Cockerpoo who is fed on raw which we buy online from a company called Jack Wolfe. He loves it, but it can be a pain as you cant buy online, and you need to make sure you in to receive the delivery as it needs to be kept frozen.
I know your not supposed to mix raw and dry at the same time, but wondered if we should mix it up at times to stop him getting bored off the food. Also would be handy to maybe have something which I can buy in a store in emergencies rather than online only.

Get friendly with your local proper butcher. Bones and scraps v cheap and sometimes free.
This is what we do from our local halal butchers. I pick up every evening and feed the next morning. I get lots of chicken mince, plenty of carcussess with lots of meat on, lamb ribs and also the butchers provide me with tons of veg for the pigs as well. I only feed my large dogs on the butchers feed and buy in frozen meat for the smaller dogs, price is 25p per lb.Challo said:

Do you buy it online, as your post is a bit confusing ? We buy Jack Wolf off their website as I didn't think they sold it in shops. We have used Guru natural dry pet food as an alternative when on holiday etc as that is compatible with raw food. Also, you should be able to leave the delivery outside for a few hours as it is very well packed in polystyrene. Barry (Terrier) and Daisy (Frenchie), are both on Natural Instinct raw, Daphne (Terrier) is on Nutro Feed Clean, which is a high (70%) meat content dry.
Raw doesn't agree with Daphne and she's not overly keen on wet, hence why she has different food to the other 2, our local stockist has discontinued Nutro so we will be looking to replace it with something else that is similar in make up.

Used to feed our two terriers on Harringtons (which they ate with complete disdain)
Now they get Butternut Box delivered every two weeks - it's fresh meat, veg and other human grade stuff. Expensive but they love it.
Since we started them they have lost excess weight, do fewer sts, one lost his greasy coat and they both seem really happy and 'settled'. I am a natural cynic and never believed food could make such a difference but this has.
I would never have put them onto this stuff due the cost but my wife got suckered in at a trade show!

Wow you are correct that is expensive; Barry would be £1.11 per day, Natural Instinct raw is 35p per day for Barry (on the cheapest which is chicken) and you have to wonder if this Butterbox is that much better given it is raw aswell and seems to have similar ingredients Now they get Butternut Box delivered every two weeks - it's fresh meat, veg and other human grade stuff. Agree with the observation on dog condition and behaviour, ours always have favourable comments about their condition and they don't have that doggy smell either.
When you do the sums, decent dog food; whether dry, wet or raw is actually no more in cost than the not so good brands when you get down to cost per portion; Bakers complete would be 33p per day for Barry and has 15% meat and 55% cereal; raw is circa 80% meat with no cereal!

Tank is a 72 kg Dogue DeBordeaux and he loves his James Wellbeloved kible. He does small (for him) dumps twice a day as regular as clock work, almost, is in great shape and has a nice shiny coat.
I buy him the Large breed variety and for treats i mix in in cooked meat, tuna, egg, rice occasionally. Other than that, and a 2 x corners of peanut butter on toast once a week he doesnt eat human food.

Our cockapoo is fed on natures menu raw food (complete meal). We've just switched to it from natural instinct as there is a pets at home that sells it about 5 mins away, rather than a shop that sells natural instinct 20 mins away.
He loves raw food, although I'm not sure natures menu is as good as natural instinct...

Royal Canin dry food for all, occasional eukanuba or JWB, I saw a couple of dogs that we had bred but were fed on less expensive food compared to the two that we had kept.......it has utterly cemented my view that you get what you pay for, buy cheap and you will be old early. This is something coming to light with them damn humans too, feed fried cheap crap and you get old early. I'm not against JnJ's food but it doesn't suit everyone and may or may not "work", my 11year observation between siblings showed such a shocking difference in skin, hair, teeth and general health, when fed differently, that I will not fed poor quality food to the dogs, it would only shorten their lives and cost more in healthcare.
And I have never had any freebies from RC just to clarify.

Our 50kg Rottweiler Flash has raw, roughly 1.5 kg a day and has a lovely coat, he does a pooh about 3 to 4 times a day though. He gets a duck neck every other day too.
Once a week he goes 24 hours without food as it seems to flush him out, he is quite trim and has good energy levels.
Dave!

Nelly has been on Natural Instinct raw since being weaned.
Thriving on it with a beautiful glossy coat.
I order it online although the postage cost is now £7.50 for next day delivery.
Have since found a local independent pet shop that sell it, but unfortunately not the puppy food.
Soon be onto adult stuff so it should be a bit easier.
