Had a pair of cats for the past 2 years and this year DL have chosen to increase thier insurance cover by £7 a month and increased the excess. Percentage wise this is quite a step.

Nothing has changed, no claims, they are now about 2 1/2 years old

So who and what cover do you have recommend?

I haven't insured my three.

Rationale being they're healthy moggie rescues as opposed to designer pets, and excesses are so high that most of the conditions warranting vet attention aren't covered anyway.

I live in the country away from busy roads and the cats are shut in at night. Should one break a leg, it's losing the leg. Anything not curable with standard medication / cage rest and pain relief is going to be PTS.

That may sound harsh, but I don't believe in complex medical interventions when it would be kinder to say goodbye. Same goes for people.

I'd also rather spend the insurance premium on ensuring the cats get the best possible food.

we went with John Lewis originally.

you don't need insurance until you need it, when we did they were absolutely amazing and helpful

£7,500 later and the cat is fixed

weve recently moved to admiral as the JL premiums were too much

Currently at ~£6,000 for Oreo (bitten by another animal - possibly fox - and broken palate, needing a screw to join it back together again), insured with Sainsburys - although a limit of £7,500 per issue, and as it looks like he'll need another operation, might push it over the limit.

I've got a cat, but i'm clearly not a cat lover!

£13k?

Anything north of 500 quid and I would throw in the towel for my moggy.

Our two are insured with Healthy Pets for £10/month (4250 lifetime cover). Boy and girl, both 4 years old. Never had to claim though so can't really recommend them.
