We inherited a young malamute 3 years ago, she was difficult, very slow to house train, always looking to advance within the now 5 dog pack, loved the old alpha male but hated the other girls. Shadow has calmed now but she confirms my view that many people pick a dog cos they look cool.......they MAY take a lot more input or maybe experience than expected, certainly, Shadow surprised me with her needs and desires. I hope she is what you want and vice versa, picking a breed for me has not always yielded the expected result but that's genetics ha ha

Beautiful pup! Love the husky look, how old?

And Thevet, that's a bit gloomy, but a 3 year old dog will often be more difficult to train than a Pup.

Not gloomy, just that some dogs are more difficult than others, similar to what my mother said about me!! She shows many natural pack dog instincts, much more strongly than any of the other dogs we have ever had. Shadow is very content in her pack, knows her place now, it just took a while to get there. She still cannot be trusted any where near kids, does not like them, don't know why, never had any bad experiences of kids.

So today's the day then!!

Interesting choice for a first dog, hoping you've done lots of research. Enjoy the puppy period, it really does go by quickly!

(Our first dog was a Cavalier King Charles, and now have a Labrador puppy...)

No, not gloomy just realistic, especially if this news story is anything to go by.....

Great dogs but as others have said they are not an easy breed

Good luck, keep the pictures coming.

Well we picked him up this morning, car journey home was fine (only about 25 mins) a few whines and naps.

Got home and he had a good explore round the downstairs and the back garden, again just a few whines and more naps.

As for researching the breed, my Girlfriend has wanted one for about 20 years and is all clued up.

Gorgeous boy, enjoy that special friendship that only comes with a dog.

As for the other posters, you guys know that Mals and Huskys are very different breeds, with very different traits?

9 Weeks old now and got his first harness.

Loves a sleep (in weird positions and places)

The day we brought him home he learned sit and paw, the next day down and high five, couple of days after he figured out how to climb out of his pen.

Only a few wet accidents in a week isn't bad and the only thing he has wrecked is a couple of his toys and has taken to chewing the mat by the back door.
