Getting just the prescription from the vet (not the drugs)
Discussion
Hi
It looks like our dog is going to need long term treatment with Metacam - an anti inflammatory
He's done really well with just a weeks worth and now its wearing off is becoming stiff and arthritic again
32ml of Metacam lasts a week and costs £20 from the vet, plus the cost of the consultation on top
I can buy 180ml of Metacam online for less than £20 but need a prescription which is where it gets a bit grey
If I walk in to the vet how likely will they either freely give me a new prescription to go and buy the stuff elsewhere or else offer to discount the stuff they sell me?
Im not really asking for it for free because the initial £20 just covered the drug, everything else in the consult was billed separately
Anyone been through similar negotiations??
Cheers
Metacam pricing is a bit strange - the big bottles are only a tiny bit more expensive than the small ones. I spoke to our vet about this and they were happy to order us the big bottle.
I can't remember the exact numbers but say the small bottle was £20, the big bottle was £23. It worked out cheaper than getting a prescription and ordering online.
