First of all no Dysons!! Bought a DC04 which allegedly is the bees knees

Well IMHO it isnt. it is unbalanced.the slghtest pull on the rather uncooperative tube makes it fall over
doesnt reach the edge of carpet and wall so we have to either get the tube out...see above... which is about as much use
or do it the old fashioned way with dustpan and brush. biggest waste of money for a long while and is unwieldy to carry

So anyone out there can give a good report on a replacement

It must be light

Get under tables and chairs
pick up dog hairs, and by pick up i do not mean rearranging them around the carpet
easy to use on the stairs....a user friendly extension tube. not the part dismantling the DC04 make you do
reasonably lightweight
easy to clean and dust disposal

Perhaps i might be searching for the Holy Grail, ,there must be a lot out the ..one must come close!

TIA

We got a Shark Duoclean pet battery one and works really well.

Also just got a Neato D5 robot one that is very good! Amazed how much dust it picked up first few times it did it’s rounds!
Works well on our rugs too so carpet should be fine.

We have 2 German Shepherds, so we are a fairly severe test for a vacuum. Sometimes the house looks like it is made of dog hair.

Henry does the job. Light, sucks well, lifts dog hair. Only caveat is that most of our floors are hard, carpets and GSDs just aren’t a good combination.

If you have hard floors like poster above, it really doesn't matter what you have. Any vaccum can suck up dog hair from a hard surface. Getting it out of carpet is another matter.

We have Miele cat and dog and it's great. New rules though mean that new vac's can only have (I think) 900w, where as mine is about 7 years old and has 2200, or maybe even 2800w. So what you need to do is go back in time and buy one from 5 years ago! hehe

I actually don't what effect if any the power limit has on suction abilites.

Yep. Be prepared to live with it for a long time though. Can't kill ours.

We're happy with our roomba robot, although it can be a bit noisy most of the time. We have a "furry" dog, pethair has always been a dilemma. Unfortunately, we would still need to let our upright vac run every once in a while since there are areas that the roomba can't reach. Vacuuming wise, it's decent, might be worth checking out.

Yeah we have a Neato D5 and amazed how good it is actually, picks up a lot of dust every time and does well with the dog hair too, although ours is short haired which must help.
