Just looking to see if anyone has any past experience similar to us.

We have a 3.5 year old pug who has been sick on and off for about a month now. He may be sick once a day for 4-5 days straight, then nothing for a few days, and then sick again for a few days. Until yesterday his poo was solid, now it's runny and I've come home today to diarrhoea on the kitchen floor which he has never done before. He was last sick maybe 5 days ago.

We've been to the vets so far 3 times. Trying a tablet that is meant to stop dogs being sick, this didn't work (tried that twice). He's had blood tests and they came back fine. He's been on antibiotics and they didn't help.

We're booked in next week to see a stomach specialist (£175 for 30 minutes, bargain). The last time we went to the vets, they thought it might be his stomach as his poo was always solid, but now it's not.

He's not been too quick to walk either, but I sort of put this down to him being bored of the local park. Can't be sure, but I bet if we took him to the beach he'd be loving it.

We've tried all sorts with his diet and it's not helped.

Just seeing if anyone else has any past experiences similar. I'm really hoping it's nothing serious.

(we have decent petplan insurance so vet fees aren't a problem).

TIA

I think you might receive a mix of responses here which might not be the most useful and might only cause you worry - there's such a wide range of things of different severities which could lead to this. For some, their dog might have just recovered after a week, for others it could have been something more serious.

You're clearly not shy of the vet and are looking into specialists so you are doing everything right - the best case scenario is he recovers naturally from a passing bug and you waste some money. The worst case is they find something and you star whatever treatment there is for it.

Issues with going to the toilet and walking spark off alarm bells for me because of past experience with my last dog, but his case wasn't identical to yours in other ways so I won't go into it. But if blood and urine is OK, then I'd be expecting suggestions of X-rays of his tum next maybe. That would at least rule out anything major in the mechanics, but most things they'd be looking for could probably be picked up on with a good feel around first. Has he had the ol' (pinky, I'd hope) finger up the bum from the vet?

Thanks for the responses.

On Thursday we took him in to the vets as we were concerned and pulled forward his appointment with the specialist to yesterday.

On Thursday they tested his bloods again and also tested for addison's disease. The blood tests didn't show anything again and the addison's results were pretty much a no, but the results were still a bit odd.

Then yesterday he had a camera down his throat in to the stomach and also an ultrasound.

We're now waiting on the results from yesterday which we'll have next week. The specialist thinks he's got a problem with his lymph nodes, he's told us not to panic as hopefully it'll just be an infection.

He's not been sick for a few days but does have regular diarrhoea now. We have to let him sleep with us so when he wakes up and needs a poo we can let him out (about twice a night).

Just a waiting game for the results now, we've got to take some poo samples in monday. Hopefully it'll just be an infection that can be cleared up. I think I've got the above right, it's all relaid from the misses.

Thank goodness for insurance also, I was going to cancel and self insure as we're paying about 60 a month. Yesterday alone was 1300 though I believe.

Poor old boy, it's devastating to see him ill and not be able to help anymore than we are.
