Have recently bought 3 new hens as one of my existing hens died, so bought 3 more to join the remaining one.
I know they gotta sort the pecking order out between them but the original hen will not mingle at all with the 3 new ones, she will chase them off and peck at them if they come anywhere near the food and water and if they get too near to her she will peck them. The 3 new ones hang about together but the one older hen will not have anything to do with them.
It’s been about 10 days now, I have separated the older hen by putting her in a cage within the chicken pen. At night times I do put them all together in the chicken coop however in the day she does appear to be bullying in my eyes.
Is this normal to take this long and this behaviour or will she never mingle nicely with the 3 new hens?

Give them a week or so -chickens always squabble when new ones are introduced but they soon settle down. The suggestion of two bowls of water and food may help initially. Move the two sets of bowls closer over a few days until you can merge the two sets.

Some chickens are just total s and there's nothing you can do about it.

Edit: they do operate in a pretty strict hierarchy so you'll need to let them fight it out if you want to keep them all.
