I’ve two Yorkies ages 10 yrs and 6 yrs. The youngest decided to run into a concrete step in my garden on route to an annoying pigeon. The pigeon won this time as after X-Rays it’s been confirmed he has a slipped disc, slightly better result than a fracture as was first suspected.
He’s on painkillers and complete rest for the next 5 weeks, difficult with a yorkie, and a physio is coming to see him on Friday.
I’m worried for the future for the little chap, has anyone else on here had slipped disc problems with their dog?
Any words of encouragement and hope please.

Hi there
I have a Dachshund who has been through IVDD many times, it is awful for you and your pup. Do follow the rest protocol as this is very important even though your pup may appear to be 'better'. You can try lots of complimentary therapies such as laser, hydro and physio to strengthen them afterwards but seek the advice of your vet as to which one and the most appropriate timing.

If you are insured, you may wish to look at a referral for an MRI to find out if this is a single event because of a trauma such as a jump or due to a condition such as IVDD - X-Rays don't really give such detail of the disc and any calcification or the grade of any disc protrusion.

Best of luck, it is a long healing process so keep her busy with some crate brain games - you can look on the canine enrichment page on Facebook there are some super ideas on there posted by owners and trainers smile

Thank you parakitaMol, it’s awful to see him like this, and he’s really pee’d off too that the other yorkie goes for a walk and he is under house arrest.
I will keep him as quiet and rested as I can, he’s better some days than others. Still on painkillers but he’s been taken off the anti inflammatory drugs now.
Thank you for replying. I hope your little dog is fit and well now.
