Importing a dog from Serbia
Discussion
Has anyone imported a puppy from Serbia or does anyone know the process/documents needed to do so? The dog in question is three months old and has had any shots due etc, but because Serbia is outside the EU I’m not exactly sure what rules apply. I’d normally ask my vet, but it’s Sunday and he is unavailable and I’m flying out overnight.
I’m going out there to watch a game of football, but the perfect dog has become available and I’d take her home if I thought it was possible.

How much red tape do you want?

Thanks for that, kind of kills the idea. Was just a set of coincidences that I am in Serbia this week and was offered a dog near to where we are staying. Some reading for you;

No chance i am afraid, you'd need rabies done 21 days before at the very least. Tapeworm they will need also, and that is to be given between 1 day and 5 days. For example if it took you 24 hours from picking dog up to customs it needs to be done in that time. Outside of the EU you would need a expert certificate also from a vet. You would be given a pet passport to show jabs etc but customs will ask for the export papers instead of that, the passport is useless in other words.

Seriously - don't you think that we can breed all the dogs that we need in this country without importing them?
This is what i don't understand.I've seen a few videos on fb of people 'rescuing' stray dogs from eastern europe and bringing them over here and being treated like heros when there are hundreds if not thousands of dogs in rescue centres in this country Already that need saving.

We see very few dogs from abroad. I think I know of one on our books at the mo so it is still much less common than rehoming from our own rescue centres.
I've bought a few of my dogs from overseas, mainly Russia and The Netherlands for the reason to better my breeding programme to make each litter better than the last. As in keeping the breed true too type and also add in the better health aspects of breeding. Some dogs i can not find over here to better the breed of dog.
If you are a novice though from buying overseas it can be a minefield, what often goes wrong.

Did you get the answers you were after?I’m going out there to watch a game of football, but the perfect dog has become available and I’d take her home if I thought it was possible.
I'm no expert but I've had a number of dogs from Serbia.
Hi there, slightly off-topic and late to the party, but I've been scouring the internet for information on this subject. My fella is considering the move to the UK, and he has a Husky who would be making the move with him. Any advice on the matter, (likely cost, reputable companies, airlines that accept dogs, etc) would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
Thanks!
