Someones dumping their 15 and 16 year old dogs :(
Discussion
I work in a dog shelter, we regularly see examples of humans being horrid.
Yesterday is the most disgusting one I've seen in a long time.
I'm dealing with an estate agent currently, nothing to do with dogs. We signed a contract yesterday afternoon, then at 7pm he called me on my mobile. I was thinking oh no, must be a problem.
It turns out he's been to see another client and they're moving house in a week and want to get rid of their mother and son dogs, 15 and 16 years old. They've had them since they were puppies. One can hardly see, the other can hardly hear.
I can't see any sort of circumstances where I'd bring two dogs up from puppies, have them both live to the age their eyes and ears are failing... then just chuck them away. Presumably they must have been loved and cared for to both make it to this age in the first place. Bloody disgusting
They won't survive in a council pound here, it'd be cruel to even put them there at all. So on Monday I'm collecting them to have a look, I have an offer from another private shelter to take them. But it may be if they can't go straight into a new 'real' home, it'd be fairer to send them a 1 way trip to the vets
Its quite sad that they're willing to put their dogs through this
Schoolboy error on my part mentioning to the agent where I worked, next time I'm saying I work in Pingo Dolce (our Tescos )

Some people are just aholes.
That is being polite I think. I have no words for people like that. Well done to the OP working in a dog shelter too. It would break my heart to work in one. It's bad enough when I take food to our local shelter. How anyone can abandon their pets like that I just do not know. robbocop33 said:
I don't know how anyone can give up their dog at 'any' age! Local for sale sites (gumtree et al) are full of, "moving house, can't take dog" or giving up dog due to new baby"etc, i just look at my dog just now and could 'never' understand doing this, in 'any' circumstances!
I'm with you. Drives me insane. Don't get the bloody dog then if you're not going to make it work!S100HP said:

+3. Feel so sorry for these two dogs. I think old dogs could teach us a thing or two about dignityThe wife and I are on holiday at the moment, we are back on Monday evening, we wouldn't have seen our 3 for 10 days; I can't wait to see them, I just can't imagine life without them, I will never understand how people can just get rid of their dog and when they are coming towards the end of their lives, like the 2 in the OP, that is when they need stability, care and love the most, it's just so sad.
We recently returned from a three week holiday.
This is the longest we have ever left our dogs.
Promised each other that in future holidays will be a maximum of two weeks.
I suspect that this practice is more widespread than you'd like to think.
We have just adopted an 11 year old Labrador from a national rescue organisation as apparently where the owners were moving to wouldn't allow dogs. They had him from a puppy too.
He is our fourth "old-timer" Labrador who we have adopted over the last 16 years or so and I dare say that some people do have some valid heartbreaking reasons for wanting to dispose of them, but they are no trouble to look after in their twilight years. All they ask is somewhere warm and safe, plenty of good food, some gentle exercise and oodles of this....
