I went for a walk this morning (SE London) to get away from my screen for a bit and saw a small grey and white cat sat looking at one of our neighbours houses. Being a bit crazy I gave her a scruff but she was all skin and bones... seriously skinny and scruffy. I picked her up and walked her back to mine where she tucked into some water and our cats food straight away, then I took her to the vets.

No microchip and the vet thought she was quite old and had probably been abandoned due to age or health issues. The vet is going to keep her for a couple of days and see if she is thin through malnutrition or illness. I told them about 8 times not to put her to sleep if she isnt poorly/treatable.... Im not sure if that happens?

Anyway I christened her 'scruffy' and hopefully she recovers and one of the old dears on my road fancies a lap cat - if she's old and sick at least she'd being looked after now.

Is it fit enough to do some work for you? Now is the time while it is grateful. Cats become entitled when used to new luxury VERY quickly, take it from me.

There is a chance if she is elderly that she was just enjoying a bit of morning sun, it is a little presumptious of the vet to say she has been abandoned because she is old.

However you were right to get her assessed by a vet just in case they are right. Hopefully if owned her owners will track her down soon.

If not will you now become the proud slave of a sweet elderly cat? smile

Called the vet today to see how she was doing as I'd found someone to take her if her owners didnt come forward - unfortunately they put her to sleep yesterday as she didnt get any better with fluids/food and apparently had a tumor on her kidney. Sad, but at least she got looked after for a couple of days and better than dying in pain outdoors somewhere.
