My boy cat Ryu who's 8 now had a limp the other day. There was no obvious cut and his pad seemed fine ie poking and pressing around it gave no obvious pain. He was a bit grumpy as you'd expect but I left him overnight and it was still the same. It became more obvious that he'd hurt a joint or pulled a muscle as working up the front leg you could see his pain reaction. I massaged his leg for a few minutes a time over the course of the next day and now after about 36-48 hours he's seemingly back to normal. He's not massive but is around 5.6kgs and the vet as for the last 2 years said he shouldn't put any more weight on. I think old age is starting to catch up with him and he's not quite as powerful and nimble as he used to be biggrin

8 is not old?!?! He might have jumped/fallen a little further than he expected?

I know 8 isn't old as such. He went out the catflap in the dark and came back a couple of hours later with a limp. I knew it wasn't too serious as he could still run across a room on 3 legs and later on was quite happy to bat away and play fight using his dodgy leg with our other cat. It definitely seemed to be the shoulder area.

5.6kg is big for the average cat.

If he isn't 100% by tomorrow it is time for a vet to assess him.

Cats are experts at hiding discomfort. If he is showing discomfort (the limping) it should be seen to.

If it flares up again then it will need checking by a vet.

He's back on all 4 feet so to speak with no limp so all seems ok. He didn't like going in or out of the catflap whilst injured as I think he had lost some articulation in his leg.
