My 2 year old Grey cat has been missing since Sunday. He came home and was wet down his back legs and I just thought he had been cleaning himself. I then remembered that I spotted him chewing on something in the front garden and thought he might have an upset stomach. I think he has eaten a mushroom that had popped up in the garden. After checking Google it said that this could kill him. Meanwhile the wife has then let him out again and he has not come home since. I really think he has gone somewhere to pass away and I am genuinely devastated. I cant help but stare at the back garden and patio door looking for him to come home but I just don't think he will. So deeply sad.

One of next door's cats went missing recently for a few weeks, presumed dead, but reappeared eventually in good condition. Fingers crossed.

Thanks for the responses. I know googling something is not a definite answer but it did state that the mushrooms can cause liver failure. I hope if he has passed he just found somewhere quiet and dry and fell asleep.

Whilst I'm not a lover of Facebook it is worth joining local commmunity groups/ animal groups and using them to spread the word and perhaps look out for him. Lots of dogs and cats reunited on ours after they have been spotted roaming or someone has been feeding it etc

I hope he returns OP. It's an agonising wait. Why would he eat a mushroom and are mushrooms bad for cats?

One of our cats went AWOL for just under a month...came back extremely thin and weak.

Had to spend a couple of days with the vet having some meds and obs.

We believe he may have been locked in a building/shed as it was over the Xmas period.

OP Hope yours returns.
it's an agonising wait and the not knowing is the worst part.

It is nice enough weather for cats to be out enjoying themselves hunting etc at the moment. I would also go door to door in your local area asking people to check their sheds and garages as at the weekends people are doing gardening etc and a nosy cat can pop into the shed/garage and get locked in.

One of ours disappeared for 3 weeks before coming back, it does happen quite often.

Fingers crossed for you.

Ours have gone missing for nearly a week and come home after that. One regularly used to go missing for four days whenever we'd been away for a few days.

One of ours went missing a few years ago for 7 weeks. We put up posters around the area and one day someone phoned us to say they saw her in their back garden eating their cats food. Luckily we managed to get her back, and she was fit and healthy. She obviously just fancied going on a bit of an adventure.

Sadly we had another one that went out one day and was never seen again. We put up the posters etc like last time, went on FB, contacted the council/local vets, walked the local streets etc, and nothing. Not a trace. No idea what happened to that cat. We can only hope he found somewhere else to live.

Best of luck in getting yours back safe and sound. Thats the trouble with cats. They do go wandering off sometimes.

You haven't mentioned if he's one for spending a lot of time outside. One of ours which loves being out, but generally comes home at least once during any 24 hour period, disappeared for an uncharacteristically long time. We got as far as putting posters up and notifying local online groups. Then, at about 3am one morning, I could hear biscuits being crunched. Our other cat was asleep on the bed so I knew she was back, though I went to check anyway. Once refuelled she was off out again!

Fingers crossed for you, but as others have said they can go missing for ages and just turn up again.

We had one go missing for three weeks, and after looking and putting up signs etc had more or less given up on her.

Came in one evening, heard a funny meow and she was standing on the shed roof wanting to come down. A bit thinner and with a nick on her ear, she was back and her normal self. God knows where she'd been all that time.

Fingers crossed for you...

Both of ours have gone missing at various times. Girl cat got shut in a church and we heard faint meowing from inside as we walked around shaking her food bowl and making the stupid 'foodie' noise that we make. Boy cat just vanished for four days before Christmas and we cancelled going away and the bugger rocked up at midnight on Christmas Eve.

If you do search, do it at the dead of night so you can hear everything and also it's easier to see eyes reflected from torchlight than it isn't during the day.

Can you post a picture of the mushroom please? I should be able to ID it for you.

I've checked with a poisons group. Cats - as obligate carnivores - are very unlikely to eat mushrooms. It will be something else.

Scatter some used cat litter outside and hang some of his bedding out as well. Also smelly food like tuna (in water). The scent may tempt him home.

I only thought it was the mushrooms as he was in the front garden eating something, I hope it wasn't. His back legs were all wet like he had lost control of his bladder but foolishly at the time I didn't think it could be anything major. I still check the back door regularly as that's where he used to come home and he never really went far when he went out. If I called him generally within a couple of minutes he'd be back but nothing since last weekend.

Still nothing. That's 4 weeks now. I still go to the patio doors every night to check for him and first thing in the morning.
