We had a long power cut this weekend (over 12 hours) & my neighbours lost their fish as the pump & heater were off. Do any of you fish keepers have backup power arrangements & if so what have you done to cover power cuts?

I did have before but then my fish tanks were on their own ring mains. Now I only have a 200g system so no ringmain so no UPS.

No harm in having a portable UPS IMHO so if you are home at least you can keep a pump/light/heater going

I have a UPS that supports the important equipment for just over an hour, before I have to reverse the car onto the driveway and hook up a 12v to 240v invertor. This is running about 120watts in the form of 4 different pumps. I paid around £100 iirc

As yet I haven't had to go in the loft and dig out the generator I bought 'just in case' about 10 years ago !

Yes, I was looking at little generators for them but a second hand Honda suitcase goes for up to £600. I'm not sure if the cheapy Chinese ones are any use when you only want to use them once in a blue moon & we've never had such a long power cut before.
