quick background, my dog is a rescue which ive had for a couple of years and we go training every week and generally shes very good but for a while now she is a bugger when strangers come around, she has gone from timid to what looks aggresive with certain people (never bitten) but if people let themselves in when we are not there she is timid. i dont know if she thinks she needs to guard us but we have tried most common stuff to reign it in but without much joy. also when out with the dog walker i sometimes use she is gentle with other dogs but normally with us she will charge up to them if i dont control it. any thoughts on what im doing wrong?! i always try to be calm so not to portray any nervous tension and have had dogs before so im flumoxed!

This might sound like a strange question, but what rules does she live by in the house? And are they enforced?

I try to be consistent with the rules and she certainly isn’t a spoilt dog, thing is it’s a pretty quiet household without much coming and going so when people do come over seems to get way too excited , she was a street rescue dog so first time she’s had a house to call her own . I just feel like I’m making her anxious somehow but for the life of me I can’t see why ! I’ve had rescues before so not my first time training a dog

It sounds like it could be linked to past experience more than what you are doing, my first thought was inconsistent rules so she doesnt feel confident with the dynamic when you and others are in the house. From what you say that doesn't seem to be the case.

She does sound to be guarding you, maybe defensively or almost as a resource?
