****ing flies.
Discussion
What is going on this year, am I alone in thinking the number of flies around this year is far above normal, a veritable plague of the little buggers.
I've used a near full can of insecticide spray in about a week, it has been sat in the cupboard unused for years. I went to two supermarkets yesterday and both were sold out, asked in both and receive a responses they had sold out, big rush on it this year.
Argh.
Yes. Due to the fantastic weather we have had this summer, flies have been having a great time.
Yesterday afternoon I got a frantic phone call from my wife, she had got home and could hear a buzzing noise coming from inside the kitchen extractor hood - and because I'd found a wasp nest the other day in the hedge at the front, thought that it was another one, in a pretty bad place we reckoned.
I left work a bit early to go and check it out, hoping that if it was a nest I'd have time to call DialAPest before they closed at 5.
Fortunately, it was not a wasp nest, but when I opened the vent hatch, it was about 100 houseflies that had all found their way in through the ventilation shaft - as I discovered that the external vent cover had come off (along with a load of the ducting) in the bad weather we had over the weekend.
That was not pleasant, but fortunately as soon as I dropped the cover all of the flies caught side of the bright sunshine and flew directly out of the open window

I would clean out your cooker hood.Yesterday afternoon I got a frantic phone call from my wife, she had got home and could hear a buzzing noise coming from inside the kitchen extractor hood - and because I'd found a wasp nest the other day in the hedge at the front, thought that it was another one, in a pretty bad place we reckoned.

My guess is that 100 flies didn't fly in.
1 fly flew in, laid it's eggs on something (which is what you need to clean out) and then you dealt with the new family!
I put one of these up in the summer, https://www.amazon.co.uk/Red-Top-86757-Fly-Trap/dp...
Follow the instructions on siting it, or it's a bit counterproductive.

These are excellent, catch kilograms of flies, but absolutely fekkin stink, so site them downwind, or 15 Metres from sitting areas.Follow the instructions on siting it, or it's a bit counterproductive.
The going rate for them out here in Bulgaria is about four quid each, so you're being ripped of at eighteen quid for two.

Yes, I gave it a good clean afterwards for that reason also. I don't expect 100 had flown in but they certainly didn't take the easy way out (straight up the flexi pipe!)My guess is that 100 flies didn't fly in.

We're definitely aware of more flies this year so I bought a proper electric swat which I enjoy perhaps more than I should! None of your five quid jobs, this was about £18 and the size of a tennis racket. It even has a built in light which seems to keep landed flies hypnotised until I whack em. Then the lightning, crackling and popping starts while the smell of burning permeates the air. I enjoy it so much I sometimes take it to the bottom of our garden to the cow field where I can really get into fly genocide!
These work really well - ours filled up with flies in a week

Not at £15 though! Earlier in the summer they were £5 for a twin pack.
